Christmas Eve and the Yoga of Jesus

The Great Souls and Avatars are born into this world with the difficult tasks of inciting love, tolerance and compassion, as well as shedding the light of truth and peaceful living among mankind. There is a long list of these Enlightened Ones who have shared their wisdom, their teachings with the world, but we human beings are stubborn. We do not learn easily.

More Great Souls will be needed to show us the way out of misery, war, greed, jealousy, and worst of all, violence against the helpless.

The birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated all over the world; in India, there are many Sadhus (monks) and Swamis (spiritual teachers or gurus) who consider Jesus Christ as one of the Incarnations of the Divine. Jesus is loved and worshipped in India as the son of God and as an Avatar manifesting the Divine Spirit.

An example of a Great Indian Enlightened Spiritual Teacher developing a deep spiritual bond to Jesus was Paramahamsa Yogananda. He became known throughout the world in his "Autobiography of a Yogi", which has become a standard and awakening book on spirituality. His discourses taught the "unity of the original teachings of Jesus Christ and the original Yoga taught by Bhagavan Krishna."

His other books include "The Second Coming of Christ" (in 2 vols.), "The Yoga of Jesus", and "The Yoga of the Bhagavad Geetha".

He was the founder of "The Self Realization Fellowship" in America, where he spent many years.

Jesus in meditation

Lord Krishna

One of Paramahamsa Yogananda's life-long missions was to promote the one Reality behind all the world's true religions, and to provide truth seekers of both East and West with the universal science of God-realization - the means to awaken to a deeper awareness of the innate divinity latent in every human being.

In Paramahamsa Yogananda's own words "Jesus went very deep in teachings that appear on the surface to be simple - much deeper than most people understand ... In [his teachings] is the whole science of yoga, the transcendental way of divine union through meditation."

With the musical inspirations below, I truly hope to spread joy and happiness on this auspicious day of Jesus Christ's birth.

All the Aum Pranava Ashram family members wish you a very happy Christmas!
